With 2026 at the halfway mark, Prime Video has pulled out all the stops with some of the best original shows of the year thus far. While there are strong contenders for the 2026 year-end lists still to come and others being released on different streaming platforms, Prime Video has cemented itself as one of the best platforms to invest in when it comes to new, inventive TV shows in every genre. Though some shows play better than others for certain viewers, the high quality caliber of the TV shows coming from Prime Video can’t be understated, especially this year.
While in years past, Prime Video has focused more intensely on different styles of TV and invested more heavily in certain genres, the offering they’ve come forward with in 2026 has been surprisingly even-keeled. With something for everyone on their roster, Prime Video’s TV offerings have been setting a high bar for their competitors, and have been keeping the platform pushing the envelope when it comes to their own content as the year continues. From superhero series to romance shows and from different stylistic choices and technology being used in the making of their content, Prime Video has been incredible.

With another season already on the way, Off Campus is a must-watch for fans of romance.

Young Sherlock
Another mystery series based on older IP, Young Sherlock tells the story of Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic Sherlock Holmes from an entirely different perspective than expected. The series, starring Hero Fiennes Tiffin as a 19-year-old version of the iconic sleuth, looks at Sherlock’s younger years and develops his origin story a bit further than other adaptations have in the past. Proving him to be an incredible investigator, seeing Sherlock as green and untrained as he is in the series is refreshing. Young Sherlock also stars Dónal Finn as a young Moriarty, and brings Sherlock’s family into the picture, as well.
