One of the best and most successful sci-fi shows on Apple TV will return soon in 2026, and, this time around, it will seemingly be more dystopian than ever. Based on Hugh Howey’s Silo book trilogy, Apple TV’s Silo is one of the most popular sci-fi shows on streaming right now. While the series’ season 2 experienced a slight dip in critical acclaim, it remains one of Apple TV’s best sci-fi offerings.
Since Silo‘s seasons 3 and 4 were filmed back-to-back, the show’s next installment has taken quite some time to come out. Fortunately, though, the wait for Silo season 3 will finally end soon when it will premiere on Apple TV on July 3, 2026. Considering how the Apple TV sci-fi show’s seasons 1 and 2 primarily covered the first book, Wool, from the original series, season 3 will pick up the second one, Shift.
Many story details from the original book and Silo season 3’s recent trailer suggest that the show will turn even more bleak and dystopian in its upcoming installment. While only time will tell how Silo season 3 will turn out, the hinted bleak developments in its story ahead already make it incredibly exciting.
Silo’s Story Will Feel Even More Dystopian In Season 3
Silo‘s seasons 1 and 2 were darkly dystopian with their portrayals of how the people of the central underground structure are forced to conform to rigid rules and blindly trust a system built on fear. In season 3, however, the Apple TV sci-fi show will delve deeper into these darker elements by walking through the origins of the titular structures.
After two whole seasons, the show will finally reveal the real reason why silos were built in the first place and the conspiracy that led to the end of the world. Juliette’s conversations with Solo in Silo season 2 have already hinted at how the overarching apocalypse was not a mere natural disaster. It was seemingly orchestrated by some incredibly powerful forces.
As Silo season 3 will primarily focus on adapting Hugh Howey’s second book, Shift, from the original series, it will expose the true nature of the overarching forces that pull the strings in the show’s world. Juliette wins the trust of her people when she returns home in Silo season 2’s ending moments.
However, Silo season 3 will further expand the series’ world and highlight how Juliette’s journey toward freedom has only begun.
In Silo season 2’s ending moments, it was also hinted that, after Bernard, Camille Sims would rise in the ranks to become a new authoritarian figure in Silo 18. This would develop a whole new power vacuum in the central silo and create another internal tyranny in the overarching system.
While even the sci-fi aspects of the Apple TV series will get more development in seasons 3 and 4, it will certainly seem more dystopian in terms of themes.
Silo Will Be More Like 1 Of Its Biggest Literary Influences In Season 3
Silo‘s original author, Hugh Howey, once cited George Orwell’s 1984 as one his biggest literary influences for his book series (via Light Speed Magazine). The influence even makes sense when one considers how, in both stories, characters are ruled by a totalitarian government that constantly keeps a close eye on them. In both, the citizens are forced to use bare minimum technology and mindlessly comply with a set of rigid rules.
As Silo season 3 will delve deeper into its exploration of how the world’s history was erased and rewritten by those in power, it will remind viewers of an iconic quote from the Orwell novel:
“He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past.”
Silo season 3’s story details have also confirmed that Juliette experiences memory loss in its early chapters. This will further make the show an Orwellian nightmare, where a character is stripped of her own truth and identity when she is almost on the verge of leading her people to freedom. With so many exciting developments ahead in Apple TV‘s Silo, it is hard not to be excited about its imminent return.
