Of all the anime and manga to take off around the same time as Jujutsu Kaisen, the one that’s had the most overlap is, oddly enough, Blue Lock. While the visuals for Blue Lock’s anime pale in comparison to Jujutsu Kaisen, both stories are known for their over-the-top action and characters, discussions revolving around powerscaling and agendas, and characters spontaneously summoning demonic entities in battle, and it’s become common for fans of one story to also be fans of the other.
Blue Lock has historically been one of the few stories that could rival Jujutsu Kaisen, and that will become even more apparent in season 3. Blue Lock season 3 will mark the beginning of the Neo-Egoist League arc and the introduction of a brand-new cast of characters, one of whom is so popular that he might very well dethrone Gojo in terms of popularity. That might sound like a bold claim to make, but considering who the character in question is, it’s anything but.
Why Blue Lock’s Most Popular Character Will Destroy Gojo
If there’s any character in Blue Lock season 3 who can dethrone Gojo as the world’s biggest anime character, it would be none other than Michael Kaiser. For starters, Kaiser is an incredibly good-looking character who gets a good deal of fanservicey scenes throughout the story, so he automatically gets a lot of points for sex appeal, and the fact that legendary voice actor Mamoru Miyano voices Kaiser only adds to his appeal.
Another important part of Kaiser’s popularity comes from his relationship with Isagi. As Isagi’s main rival in the Neo-Egoist League arc, Kaiser is constantly butting heads with Isagi and pulling off ridiculous stunts to try and one-up him, so not only does Kaiser draw in tons of yaoi shippers pairing him with Isagi out of love for their toxic relationship, but he’s also often at the center of some of the biggest scenes of the arc, which only serves to make him look cooler.
Tying it all together is Kaiser’s backstory in Blue Lock; not only is Kaiser’s backstory incredibly tragic, but when used to explain his behavior before then, the result is one of the best-written characters in the entire series, and his character arc only keeps going from there. All of those factors have made Kaiser an immensely popular character with just the manga, and once the anime brings him to the attention of even more people, it wouldn’t be crazy to think that he could more than match even Gojo’s level of popularity.
Blue Lock Season 3 Will Be The Massive Hit We’ve Been Waiting For
Kaiser’s inevitable explosion in popularity will be great, and it’s another reason why Blue Lock season 3 will be a massive hit. Kaiser’s great writing perfectly encapsulates how great a job the Neo-Egoist League arc does of pushing the character writing to even greater heights, all while being accompanied by incredible action and visuals, and while Blue Lock season 2 has become rather infamous among fans, with how long season 3 has been taking to come out, it will hopefully be vastly improved to live up to the standards of the story.
6 Years Later, It’s The End Of An Era For Blue Lock After Shocking New Twist
The cast of Blue Lock just suffered their biggest loss in over half a decade, and it could be the best thing to ever happen to the manga.
Despite its rocky beginnings and an especially rocky second season, Blue Lock has everything going for it to be a smash hit, thanks to season 3’s great story and potentially vastly improved art and animation, and giving fans a character even bigger than Gojo, like Kaiser, is the perfect start to making that happen. Blue Lock season 3 might still be a long way off, but everything that’s set to happen in season 3 will be well worth the wait, and as it stands, there’s every reason for old and new fans alike to get excited about it.
