Cyberpunk 2077 has become an iconic sci-fi RPG in its relatively short lifespan, and it’s hard to believe the game suffered such a troublesome launch given how pristine gameplay has become. This evolution is all thanks to the dedicated team at CD Projekt Red who have worked tirelessly over the years to deliver to fans the best experience possible.
While major content updates and DLC have officially ended for Cyberpunk 2077 as developers at CDPR shift focus to The Witcher projects and Cyberpunk 2077‘s official sequel (aka Project Orion), players are still receiving quality-of-life, technical, and platform support. As part of this ongoing support and recent developments, CDPR has officially confirmed that, unfortunately, millions of gamers will no longer be able to play Cyberpunk 2077 come October 2026.
According to a support update from CD Projekt Red, they’ve confirmed that Windows 11 will become the minimum supported operating system with Cyberpunk 2077‘s next update, though the studio has not yet announced when that update will be released.
CD Projekt Red says future versions of Cyberpunk 2077 will be officially tested only on Windows 11. While the game may still run on Windows 10, players using the older operating system should not expect official support or fixes for Windows 10-specific issues going forward.
Although Microsoft’s original timeline suggested Windows 10 support would effectively conclude in October 2026 for many users, it’s worth noting that the company has since extended its consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU) program through October 2027 for eligible participants.
However, CD Projekt Red has not updated its policy to reflect that extension, leaving it unclear whether the studio will proceed with its existing plans or revise them in the future. For now, there is no indication that the operating system requirement is tied to a specific release date, only that it will take effect whenever the game’s next update arrives, with the current best estimate being October this year.
That said, it’s possible CDPR will extend support for Windows 10 users based on Microsoft’s updated ESU policy, though given the studio’s focus on other projects aside from Cyberpunk 2077, they’ve clearly got a lot on their plates at the moment.
Further, non-Windows 10 users don’t have much to worry about for the time being, as CDPR has confirmed another update is coming, and has said Windows 11 becomes the minimum supported operating system with that update. This suggests the studio is still actively maintaining Cyberpunk 2077, even if support is now focused on QoL improvements, technical enhancements, and compatibility rather than new narrative content.
