When it was first released, Fallout 4 was met with a mixed reception. There’s so much to love about the game (especially a few of its companions), but there are also some flaws, and the Boston setting wasn’t as interesting or as fully fleshed out as it could have been.
Over time, fans addressed many of these issues through fan-created content, and Bethesda addressed some criticisms through updates and DLC. Now, it’s seen by some fans as one of the more open-ended iterations, especially in its base-building elements, compared to its predecessors.
Now, you can play a very special quest in Fallout 4. Over on X, fans are talking about the latest content, and there’s a lot to discuss.
Out now on Nexus Mods, you can pick up the Modding for Charity quest Double Feature. Fallout voice actors Wes Johnson, Jan Johns, and Leer Leary all return to perform characters in the quest, making it as official as you can get next to a Bethesda release. The mod was created “almost entirely in one weekend,” benefiting an Alzheimer’s charity.
Here’s the full description, and what you can expect from this surprisingly deep quest: “Wes Johnson is back to voice another adventure for Fallout 4, and this time he brought friends! Written by Sirick the lead writer of Sim Settlements 2, and Pig from the Commonwealth Story Expansion Project. During the questline you’ll explore a new dungeon crafted by the Concord Stories team and evanbaker3617! As a reward you get access to a player home by Elianora, a new weapon by Neeher, a new piece of power armor from Niero and Captain-Ultima; and you’ll be joined by a brand new companion!”
Beyond the voice acting, a ton of people were involved in creating Double Feature. Multiple artists helped craft the game world (including player home, weapons, armor, and level design); two folks worked on the audio; and several members worked on quest design and support arms for the project.
To kick off the mod, you’ll need to head to Cambridge, then find a “damaged Protectron” in a Raider Camp that’s near the CIT building. The quest will start automatically, and if it doesn’t, there are already some fixes in place.
Fallout 4 might not be the best entry in the franchise according to some fans, but there’s still a reason to return to its version of the Wasteland. Between quality-of-life and content mods, you can bend the game to your will.
