It has been a big month for those looking forward to Grand Theft Auto VI, with Rockstar finally giving us the answers to some of our biggest questions.
With just five months to go until the launch of perhaps the biggest game of all time, we finally have access to pre-orders, and with that, a price. We know that GTA VI will launch alongside two versions: Standard and Ultimate, and we know that the latter will give players access to all areas of the game, whilst the Standard locks a lot of features behind a paywall. Not only that, but with the Ultimate edition asking for $100, it is a big commitment, but as we know, Rockstar can get away with it.
Despite all of the new information, there are still some things we do not know about the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, with one of which being its potential file size. It is hard to believe that when Grand Theft Auto V first launched way back in 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, it only required a mere 8GB to install. Of course, this increased dramatically over the years, especially when it later launched on PC, but it is still shocking to believe that its initial installation did not even hit 10GB.
When it comes to Grand Theft Auto VI, that will certainly not be the case. At the time of writing, Rockstar has not confirmed the file size, but that has not stopped fans from speculating, with one user over on r/GTA6 predicting that it could be around 200-250GB upon launch.
As you can expect, this estimation soon garnered a lot of attention, with other fans coming forward with their own thoughts ahead of Rockstar’s official confirmation.
“Red Dead Redemption 2 takes 150 GB on PC,” the top comment reads. “So, I imagine that this will take at least 50% higher, maybe around 225GB?” However, another user thinks differently, replying, “GTA6 will likely require an SSD, which will cut down on file size because of less duplicated sizes. So, honestly, I think it’ll be about the same size as RDR2, maybe 140GB-170GB.”
Another said, “Honestly, I don’t think it’ll push past 180 GB. At most, probably 210 GB,” with one reply reading, “I feel like this is the most accurate estimate. It’s had plenty of time to be a well optimized game. It’ll also be smaller on PS5 because of the better compression tech.”
As mentioned, an exact file size for Grand Theft Auto VI has not yet been revealed, leaving it to be one of the next major questions to be answered by Rockstar. However, with just a few months to go until launch and no signs of an official gameplay trailer, it seems as though there may be bigger concerns.
