We’re nearing the conclusion of the Invincible TV show, but there are ostensibly so many more stories to tell. The world of Invincible is deep, given the original comic run lasted quite a while, and the TV show is similarly cementing its legacy on Amazon Prime Video, albeit with some changes.
All of these characters and continuities work in concert to provide a vast, expansive universe for Invincible that spans Earth, the stars, and even realms below. As you might imagine, there’s room for a lot more than just a TV show or video game, especially in the coming years.
If you’re a big Invincible fan, you’ll want to mark your calendars for July 30, as it’s a pretty huge day.
Thanks to an announcement from Free League Publishing, we know that the Invincible RPG is out on July 30. Titled Invincible – Superhero Roleplaying, it’s recommended for ages 16 and up and is a fully fledged RPG set in the universe of Invincible.
Here’s a quick blurb to give you an idea of what Free League is going for: “In this action-packed storytelling experience, you and your friends take on the role of superheroes in your own corner of the Invincible universe – or any superhero setting of your own choosing. The Invincible universe is filled with everything we love about superhero stories – costumes and capes, epic brawls across cityscapes, sidekicks, team-ups, alien invasions, witty banter, alternate dimensions, and much more – though these familiar elements are often subverted in surprising ways. Any trope can exist, and any trope can be turned on its head.”
Examples for the game include speedsters, inventors, vigilantes, aliens, and heroes, while character traits include wisecracking, genius, grizzled, shape-shifting, and flying. Relationship elements are teased, as well as “tough challenges and choices.” In some cases, the ability to learn your powers is an option.
The game itself is based on the Year Zero Engine, which uses a six-sided die to add to its simplicity compared to other frameworks. It’s not all about brawling either, as there’s banter, alternate dimensions to navigate, and possible team-ups. The starter set is priced at $30 USD, while the core rulebook is $54. You can also download character sheets now to check them out ahead of the July 30 release.
The possibilities seem incredibly interesting, especially if you’re at all invested in the Invincible universe. It’s a great way to spend more time in the world before the next season of the TV show drops.
