Liam Neeson’s 106-minute action movie has been resurrected on Netflix three years later in a heavenly comeback.
While Neeson had already made his mark in major blockbusters such as Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999), Batman Begins (2005), and The Chronicles of Narnia trilogy (2005–2010), it was Taken (2008) that firmly established him as an action star. He continued building that reputation with action movies like The A-Team (2010), The Grey (2011), Unknown (2011), Wrath of the Titans (2012), A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014), Non-Stop (2014), Run All Night (2015), The Commuter (2018), and Cold Pursuit (2019). Now, another one of Neeson’s action thrillers has found a second life on streaming.
Three years after its release, In the Land of Saints and Sinners has been brought back to life on streaming. The 2023 action thriller stars Liam Neeson as a weary hitman who is pulled out of retirement for one final assignment when an IRA bomber fleeing the authorities turns up in his quiet Irish village.
Now, In the Land of Saints and Sinners is No. 2 on Netflix’s Top 10 movies in the United States for today, August 10. It ranks below The Last House at No. 1 and above 72 Hours, Minions, The Beach House Murders, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Black Adam, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Chief of Station, and Terry McMillan Presents: His, Hers & Ours at 10th.
In the Land of Saints and Sinners is also streaming on Prime Video and for free on Tubi.
Other than Liam Neeson in the lead role, the cast includes other Irish actors, such as Oscar nominee Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jack Gleeson, Colm Meaney and Oscar nominee Ciarán Hinds (Belfast), alongside Sarah Greene, Desmond Eastwood, Niamh Cusack, Conor MacNeill, Seamus O’Hara, Mark O’Regan, Valentine Olukoga, Michelle Gleeson, Bernadette Carty, Conor Hamill, and Anne Brogan.
At the time of its release, In the Land of Saints and Sinners reviews were largely positive, resulting in an 83% Rotten Tomatoes score, with critics calling it well-crafted and traditionally structured, standing out as one of Liam Neeson’s stronger action thrillers in recent years. It also has a 74% audience score.
However, the action movie made little impact at the box office in 2023, grossing only $3.2 million worldwide against an estimated production budget of approximately the same amount. Although if you missed it the first time, this streaming comeback might make In the Land of Saints and Sinners worth a look on Netflix.
