First appearing in The Amazing Spider-Man #14 back in July 1964, the Green Goblin has cemented itself as one of the most iconic Marvel villains over the past six decades. Known for his ongoing feud with Spider-Man, Green Goblin, otherwise known as Norman Osborn, has served as Spider-Man’s arch-nemesis alongside the likes of Doctor Octopus and Venom, and as such, has had many actors portray him over the years.
Described as “the most flat-out unhinged and terrifying of them all” by comics journalist and historian, Mike Conroy, the Green Goblin has been portrayed by the likes of Willem Defoe, Josh Keaton, Jorma Taccone, and Neil Ross, but with the launch of a brand-new Marvel video game, a new Norman Osborn has taken to the stage, and fans are already praising their performance.
Set to launch on 6 August, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is an upcoming fighting game where players will need to assemble their team of legendary Marvel characters “in the ultimate 4v4 tag-team fighter.” Developed by ARC SYSTEMS WORKS, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is the ultimate fighting game for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, featuring over 20 iconic heroes at launch, with more expected to join later on. Rendered in a colorful anime-style, this fighting game will feature a mix of heroes and villains as players experiment with team compositions, focusing on synergies, combos, and strategies in order to come out on top.
“Fighting is both immersive and intuitive, with a range of unique move sets, combos, and strategies to master. Adjustable controls, both traditional and quick inputs, plus easy chain combos make diving right in a breeze,” the official synopsis shares. “Face off against a friend locally or join the fray with up to 64 players in the online lobby, including standard VS modes. Plus, dive deep on each team with the single player Episode Mode to learn more about team dynamics and lore.”
As mentioned, Green Goblin will be one such villain available to play in Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, and in this iteration, he will be played by Steve Blum.
Known for his distinctively deep voice, the American actor has featured in hundreds of franchises over the years, including his roles as Spike in Cowboy Bepop, Amon in The Legend of Korra, and Orrelios in the Star Wars franchise to name but a few. He has also starred in Mortal Kombat, God of War, Call of Duty: Zombies, Transformers, and the list goes on.
Put simply, you have probably heard Blum’s voice in your lifetime, and now he will be lending it to Green Goblin in Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls.
Following the news, potential players took to r/Marvel to share their thoughts. “Seeing Steve Blum back as Goblin is a treat,” one comment read. Another said, “Goblin and Carnage are finally in a fighting game. No way. Now I can play Mag/Doom shell in yet another game for years to come. HELL YEAH.” Another added, “Well, I, for one, think Carnage and Green goblin are sick AF picks.”
With Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls expected to launch in August, there is not long to go until we see Blum’s Green Goblin in action in the ultimate Marvel fighting game.
