With some Nintendo games reaching heights of $80 since the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, Pokémon fans are worried about what this could mean for the launch of the next mainline entry, Pokémon Winds & Waves, which is set to launch in 2027. Whilst some Nintendo games still maintain that $60 price tag, others are asking for more each year, and with the Pokémon franchise being one of Nintendo’s most success and well-loved, the cost of the next mainline entry could reach record-breaking numbers.
First announced back in February, Pokémon Winds & Waves will release in 2027 and take players to a tropical archipelago region resembling areas of Southeast Asia. Marking the first entry in Generation 10 of the Pokémon saga, big things are expected and with the game featuring multiple islands, as well as accessible underwater areas, it may just be the biggest open-world Pokémon game yet.
With leaks suggesting a completely overhauled battle system, a large map featuring multiple Gyms, and maybe even a new Eevelution on the horizon, it is an exciting time to be a Pokémon fan, but will its potential price put many off?
Courtesy of Nintendeal who discovered the listing on Amazon Germany, Pokémon Winds & Waves will supposedly cost €79.99, which may not sound that bad, but it is worth noting that this is the equivalent of around 90USD, meaning that this will be the first Pokémon title to cost over $80. Previously, it was only Mario Kart World and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition that reached this eye-watering price.
As always, it is worth taking this leak with a pinch of salt as no price has been confirmed, or even hinted at, by Nintendo and, most likely, even Nintendo will not yet have decided on a price point with Pokémon Winds & Waves possibly not launching for another year. However, as previously mentioned, the Pokémon franchise is so well-loved, that there is no denying that many fans would be happy to pay these eye-watering prices.
For now, Nintendo remains tight-lipped about the release date and price of Pokémon Winds & Waves, leaving fans to speculate on when they can get their hands on the first entry in Generation 10. With multiple mainline Pokémon entries over recent years leaving fans divided, Nintendo has a lot to prove with Pokémon Winds & Waves, and if it plans on making it cost upwards of $90 to buy, it had better make it worth it.
