A major TV platform is ending this month.
After an explosion of streaming services were created, many of them have either ceased to exist or merged with other platforms. Quibi was launched in 2020 and shut down later that same year, with its content library being sold to Roku. IMDb TV was rebranded as Amazon Freevee, but this did not prevent the platform from eventually being shut down. Meanwhile, Showtime had to end its streaming service and was integrated into Paramount+.

Paramount+ with Showtime produced a lot of shows in 2025, but only these 10 series can be considered the streaming service’s best of the year.
Now, TV Time has announced that it will be discontinued after July 15. While it is not a streaming service, the app allows users to track, score, and discuss television shows and movies. In the official announcement, it was explained that continuing to run the free app was no longer feasible, but that demand was not high enough to switch over to a paid app format. After many incredible years, we’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue TV Time. The service will end after July 15, 2026.
While we loved supporting TV Time, it was no longer sustainable to continue operating the service as a free app, and there was not enough demand for a paid app.
To everyone who tracked, discovered, and shared their love of TV and movies with us, thank you. Your passion and enthusiasm made TV Time more than an app. You made it a community.

TV Time
In addtion to announcing and explaining the reason for the shutdown, TV Time has provided information on what will happen to users’ data. All of it will be deleted after July 15, but before then, there is an option to download all data via the app’s data download export tool. Assurances have been provided that once the platform is shuttered, consumer data will no longer be used for any commercial purposes. However, they “may retain aggregated, non-personal information for internal business, legal, or regulatory purposes, as permitted by applicable law.”
Beyond the official reason for the shutdown, according to TechCrunch, the decision is more so related to companies prioritizing AI products. This shift has contributed to other consumer apps ending even when they have an active user base. An example is the app Pocket, which Mozilla shut down despite a high number of active users, as the company focused on adding AI-powered search to Firefox. TV Time is owned by Whip Media, who has embraced an AI-powered tool known as Helix that it uses for workflow management and analytics.
For tracking and rating movies, Letterboxd is the go-to option, but it only allows users to do this for shows with a single season. This has made TV Time a popular alternative for logging and scoring series with more than one season. On X, Letterboxd did reply, “We are still working on it” when asked if they will introduce TV tracking in light of TV Time’s shutdown.
While users are lamenting the end of being able to track and rate TV shows and movies on the app, a common sentiment on the TV Time subreddit and on social media is the loss of community. The social features made it an interactive space, which holds value beyond the titles watched and the scores given to them. In Whip Media’s marketing materials, it has been said that the service has more than 25 million users.
Between summer 2026’s many high-profile shows and the ever-growing number of streaming and network television series, there is only going to be more content that viewers want to log, rate, and discuss. TV Time is a major loss in this regard, although Letterboxd and other competitors may be able to fill some of the void moving forward.
