Slow Horses season 6’s mysterious new character has received an exciting tease from one of the show’s stars ahead of the spy thriller’s return later this year.
Based on the acclaimed Slough House novels by Mick Herron, Slow Horses follows a group of disgraced MI5 agents assigned to the agency’s dumping ground, Slough House, under the leadership of the foul-mouthed but brilliant Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman). The series has become one of Apple TV+’s biggest critical successes, earning widespread acclaim for its blend of espionage, dark comedy, and sharp character work.
Speaking with Variety, Christopher Chung, who plays Roddy Ho, opened up about what viewers can expect from Roddy when season 6 premieres in September. While joking that fans should prepare for “a new hairstyle,” the actor also teased that the fallout from season 5 will continue to weigh heavily on his character. Chung also hinted at a larger story that sees the Slow Horses united against a dangerous new threat, while offering praise for newcomer Lenny Rush, who joins the cast in a mysterious role. Read his comments below:
A new hairstyle! You’ll definitely see the hangover of what happened in Season 5, and he’s still trying to come to terms with the fact that Tara might not have been a true love. The Slow Horses band together and they go on the run from sinister forces.
And obviously we have Lenny Rush joining, who I got to work with, he’s wonderful, and to see him in that world, because he’s done so much comedy, it’s really great. I’m really excited for him.
Rush’s role remains largely under wraps, which makes Chung’s comments particularly intriguing. First-look images released by Apple have already shown the newcomer sharing scenes with Roddy, but details about his character have been kept secret. Check out the first look at Rush’s character below:
While Apple is keeping Rush’s character firmly under wraps, his addition to the cast has generated plenty of excitement. Despite being just 17 years old, Rush has quickly become one of Britain’s most acclaimed young actors. He first gained widespread recognition for his breakout role in the BAFTA-winning comedy series Am I Being Unreasonable?, earning praise for his sharp comedic timing alongside Daisy May Cooper.
Chung’s comments suggest Slow Horses season 6 could offer Rush one of his biggest opportunities yet. The actor is best known for lighter roles, making his involvement in the darker, espionage-driven world of Slow Horses a notable departure. If his scenes with Roddy become a major part of the upcoming season, Rush could end up playing a key role in one of the show’s most dangerous missions to date.
Apple officially announced earlier this month that season 6 will premiere on September 16. The new season adapts Joe Country and Slough House, the sixth and seventh novels in Herron’s series, marking the first time the show has combined two books into a single season. According to the official synopsis, the story will see the Slow Horses forced onto the run after Diana Taverner becomes embroiled in a deadly game of retaliation and revenge.
With the Slow Horses on the run, Roddy still reeling from the events of season 5, and a mysterious new character entering the picture, season 6 is already shaping up to be another high-stakes chapter for Apple TV+’s acclaimed spy drama. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out how Rush fits into the story when the series returns.
