Star Trek‘s two Captain Pike actors unite as Anson Mount from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds finally meets Bruce Greenwood from J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek movie reboot.
Before Star Trek (2009), Captain Christopher Pike hadn’t been seen since Jeffrey Hunter and Sean Kenney portrayed him in Star Trek: The Original Series. Greenwood played Pike in J.J. Abrams’ alternate Kelvin reality. In 2018, Mount brought Pike back to Star Trek‘s Prime timeline, playing the Captain of the Starship Enterprise in Star Trek: Discovery season 2 before leading his own spinoff, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Bluesky user Chris (@shelfnerds.bsky.social) shared a photo of Anson Mount and Bruce Greenwood getting together at STLV: Trek to Vegas. The two Captain Pike actors met up at Greenwood’s table as fans looked on in awe during the biggest Star Trek convention of the year, celebrating the franchise’s 60th anniversary. See the pic below:
Bruce Greenwood’s Captain Pike had a memorable but short-lived tenure as Captain of the Enterprise in Star Trek (2009). Pike’s function in J.J. Abrams’ blockbuster was to mentor James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and pass the Starship Enterprise to him, its new Captain. In Star Trek Into Darkness, Pike becomes an Admiral but was killed during an attack on Starfleet by Khan (Bruce Greenwood), spurring Kirk’s quest for vengeance.
Anson Mount has dynamically led Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for four seasons and counting. The most popular Star Trek Captain of the Paramount+ streaming era, Mount’s Christopher Pike is a multidimensional commander and character. Pike is as comfortable on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise as he is in his kitchen whipping up a gourmet meal for his crew. Mount will return as Pike in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ upcoming fifth and final season.
Both versions of Captain Pike are mentors to James T. Kirk, although Greenwood’s version was more of a father figure. Bruce’s Pike also ended up in a wheelchair, as the Prime Universe’s Chris is destined to be, but met a tragic death. On Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Captain Pike knows he’s inevitably going to be disfigured and wheelchair-bound, but he’s living his remaining time to the best of his ability.
Only Anson Mount and Bruce Greenwood know what they said to each other, but moments like this are part of the magic of STLV. In previous years, Spock actors Ethan Peck and Zachary Quinto shared the stage together, as did William Shatner and Paul Wesley, who plays James T. Kirk in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, as well as Dan Jeannotte, who plays Sam Kirk, a role Shatner also originated in Star Trek: The Original Series.
