Supernatural fans are officially one month away from seeing Sam and Dean Winchester return for one final ride, as the franchise prepares for an epic conclusion that will mark the end of an era for the two brothers. However, even with this final chapter approaching, we already know when fans can expect the Winchesters to return for their next adventure.
2025 saw the Winchester brothers return to their golden era in Dynamite’s 10-part Supernatural comic series. Brought to life by writer Greg Pak alongside a rotating lineup of artists, the series returned Dean and Sam to the fan-beloved “monster-of-the-week” format that helped define the early seasons of the CW series. This was made possible by the story being set between Season One and Season Two of the show, allowing fans to experience a new chapter in the brothers’ original hunting days.
With eight of the ten issues currently available, the series has essentially served as a “missing chapter” for fans of the show, delivering brand-new monster hunts while bringing back what remains one of the most iconic brother dynamics in pop culture history.
However, the end of this comic series is now in sight, with fans just over a month away from seeing Dean and Sam return for its highly anticipated conclusion. While this particular journey for the Winchester brothers may be coming to an end, Dynamite has already confirmed that Supernatural still has a bright future ahead at the publisher.
Dynamite’s Supernatural Series Ends Soon, But Sam and Dean Are Just Getting Started

Set to release on August 26, 2026, Greg Pak and artist Dan Scalisi’s Supernatural #10 will serve as the series finale. The official synopsis teases: “It’s the end of the road for this inaugural SUPERNATURAL series! Sam and Dean must face one final foe (for now!) and set a new course for creature feature adventures yet to come!”
While the series ending with issue #10 was always part of the original plan, it will still serve as a bittersweet goodbye for fans who have appreciated how this comic returned the brothers and the franchise to their roots. By focusing on the early days of Sam and Dean’s hunting career, the series brought back the classic “monster-of-the-week” format, featuring new creatures and cases while revisiting the era before the CW series expanded into larger and more complex narratives involving Heaven, Hell, and the fate of the entire world.
However, even with the end of this series in sight, it’s clear that Dynamite has plans for Sam and Dean beyond this initial run. While nothing has been officially confirmed, fans could potentially see Greg Pak or another writer return to expand Dynamite’s Supernatural universe beyond its current ten-issue series. In fact, fans already have another Winchester adventure to look forward to: the upcoming one-shot special Wayward, which promises to pave the way for even more Supernatural stories.
Sam and Dean Winchester’s Wayward Special, Explained
John Amor Main Cover by John Amor for Supernatural Special: Wayward #1 (2026)
Supernatural Special: Wayward #1 will be brought to life by writer Paulina Ganucheau and artist John Amor. The 48-page special is expected to release on September 2, 2026, and will serve as the foundation for more Supernatural stories to come, as confirmed by its official synopsis:
The split starts here – in a shocking one-shot issue that sets the table for the explosive event to come! Sam and Dean Winchester are bound by blood and purpose – so what horrible, hellish forces could drive these brothers to travel separate roads? You’ll find the answers here…
Unfortunately, despite the anticipation for Wayward, there are still some details that aren’t clear. Very specifically, where the comic takes place in Supernatural’s timeline isn’t known at the time of writing. Given the TV series’ iconic and divisive ending, it seems unlikely that Wayward would continue on from those events. Though that being said, Supernatural’s world is one where pretty much anything is possible if it serves the plot, so it’s not impossible that Wayward would continue Dean and Sam’s story after the TV series’ conclusion.
While that possibility might be tantalizing to many fans unsatisfied with the franchise’s canon ending, it remains unlikely. With the main Dynamite series taking place between Season 1 and Season 2, it would make more sense for Wayward to continue from there, creating a seamless transition from the main comic to the special.
With the main Supernatural comic series coming to an end and the Wayward special fast approaching, fans should expect Dynamite to begin sharing more news about future projects in the coming weeks. Therefore, while one Supernatural series may be drawing to a close, this is far from the last time fans will be seeing Sam and Dean Winchester.
