It’s finally happening. With it being the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda franchise, there was so much speculation, rumors and supposed leaks about what was coming down the line. The biggest of which was a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. And thanks to the Nintendo Direct on June 9, all our dreams came true. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is coming soon, and we’ve learned even more details, so strap in.
Thanks to early pre-orders on the PlayAsia store, we now know that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will sell for $59.99 on Nintendo Switch 2. The website has availability marked as TBA, but the price is correct as these prices are decided with retailers long before the games launch. This price for the physical edition of the game is surprising, as typically full-price Switch 2 games sell for $69.99. With it being a remake rather than a brand-new IP, perhaps Nintendo was feeling more generous with the fans.
The remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is set to be a reimagining of the original game from the ground up. The original launched way back in 1998 on the Nintendo 64 and is still today considered one of the greatest RPG adventures of all time. The teaser trailer shown at the summer Nintendo Games Direct showed very little, except a potential map redesign for Hyrule. Certainly no free-flowing gameplay, but the quick snapshots of Link were absolutely stunning. The visuals are clearly aimed towards a modern audience and have brought anticipation to a fever pitch.
Beyond a vague release date of 2026, we have no clue when it’s coming out. Many fans believe it’ll be towards the end of the year, targeting the holiday period and deftly avoiding Grand Theft Auto 6 in November. With the unofficial fan remake of Ocarina of Time now stopped, this is the only true Zelda masterpiece we have to look forward to this year. Whether it’s a faithful one-to-one reimagining or it takes liberties and creates something new, the excitement either way is palpable.
The price of $59.99 seems like a bargain for a remake of one of the greatest games of all time. Sure, it’s not an original, but it does offer a whole new generation of gamers to experience Link’s amazing hero’s journey across Hyrule. Even for old gamers like me, it’s an excuse to get lost in a world I fell in love with originally on the N64. Getting the chance to use chickens as gliders in Kakariko village in glorious 4K feels like a dream come true.
2026 was already shaping up to be a fine year for gaming with the likes of Marvel’s Wolverine and Grand Theft Auto 6 yet to come. Now that we know officially that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake game is also landing this year and is coming in at a fair price, there’s so much more to be excited about. While most are getting excited about stealing cars in Leonida for the first time, I’ll be counting the days until I can get lost all over again in The Lost Woods.
