A surprise sci-fi icon who starred in Terminator 2: Judgment Day joins the cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4. Premiering Thursday, July 23 on Paramount+, season 4 will be the last season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds that consists of 10 episodes. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds‘ fifth and final season, expected in 2027, will consist of 6 episodes.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 unveiled its full trailer, promising bold new adventures for the crew of the USS Enterprise that sets up “the beginning.” This means Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 will start setting up the fifth and final season that will end with Captain James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) taking over the Starship Enterprise from Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount).
The entire cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be back for season 4, including special guest stars Carol Kane as Commander Pelia and Paul Wesley as Lt. Commander James T. Kirk. However, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4’s trailer also includes an unexpected familiar face who is no stranger to legendary sci-fi franchises.
Joe Morton Plays A Starfleet Admiral In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 features Joe Morton guest starring as a Starfleet Admiral. In season 4’s trailer, the back of the head of Morton’s flag officer is seen in the hall of the USS Enterprise. Morton’s Admiral then speaks on the bridge, telling Captain Pike’s crew, “I know what we are about to do is hard.”
Strange New Worlds Season 4 Has More “Classic” Star Trek Episodes, Fewer “Big Swings,” Says Co-EP
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds co-executive producer Bill Wolkoff delves into season 4’s episodes and what lessons were learned from season 3.
Captain Pike is seen speaking to an Admiral earlier in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4’s trailer. Pike asks his commanding officer, “Where are you sending us?” The Admiral replies, “Well, this is a fun one.” While the Admiral’s face isn’t shown in that brief scene, it’s possible this is also Joe Morton’s Star Trek character.
Joe Morton appearing in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 begs the question whether Admiral Robert April (Adrian Holmes) will also be part of the next 10 episodes. A former Captain of the Enterprise himself, April is Pike’s commanding officer who gave the Starship Enterprise its marching orders in previous seasons of Strange New Worlds.
Adrian Holmes does reprise Admiral April in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 5. Perhaps Joe Morton steps in because Holmes was unavailable for season 4. Or both Admiral April and Joe Morton’s yet-unnamed Admiral both appear in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4.
Joe Morton Has A Legendary Sci-Fi Acting Career
Joe Morton is an extraordinary talent with a wealth of sci-fi bona fides in his extensive and impressive list of acting credits. For Terminator fans, Morton will forever be Miles Bennett Dyson, the ‘father’ of Skynet, in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Morton appeared alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, and Edward Furlong in James Cameron’s classic sequel.
Morton’s sci-fi credits include his starring role as Henry Deacon in Eureka, guest spots in The X-Files and Smallville, and playing Houston Brooks in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. For DC superhero fans, Joe Morton is iconic for playing Dr. Silas Stone, the father of Cyborg (Ray Fisher) in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Joe Morton also played the devious Eli Pope, the father of Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), in Scandal.
A previous Joe Morton/Star Trek connection is his guest starring role in A Man Called Hawk, the crime series headlined by future Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Captain Avery Brooks. Of course, Joe Morton also played the devious Eli Pope, the father of Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), in Scandal.
While it’s not yet confirmed how many episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 that Joe Morton appears in, he’s another casting coup that showcases the ability of Alex Kurtzman’s Star Trek on Paramount+ series to draw top acting talent. Joe Morton giving orders to the crew of the Starship Enterprise in Star Trek’s best current show is bound to be something special.
