The sad news for us Fallout fans is that we are almost certainly not going to get another game in the single-player series for a long while yet. Bethesda Game Studios are largely focused on The Elder Scrolls VI, with that game hopefully finally releasing over the next few years, meaning we aren’t likely to see a Fallout 5 in any meaningful capacity until beyond 2030.
That means that we’re largely going to have to rely on the older games to have a good time in the post-apocalypse, and fortunately there are a lot of great options in that department. For many, the first port of call will be the most recent entry in the series, and if you’re someone who usually plays it on console, you’ve just received a very important update that should open up a world of opportunities.
Over on the official Bethesda Game Studios website, they shared a post confirming that a major update was on the way for Fallout 4 that massively increases Creation storage limits on console. This opens up a raft of opportunities with mods from the community, and the really cool news is that it rolls out today.
This new change will see the storage limit on Xbox Series S/X get a massive boost to 100GB, while players on the PlayStation 4/5 and Xbox One will see their max capacity go up to 15GB. It’s obviously great news, because being able to download more mods means that you can easily add a ton of longevity to your experience with the game by adding player-created quests.
Over on Reddit, under a post sharing the news, fans were understandably pleased with this step, over ten years since the original launch. “PC player here, I had no idea the limit was that low for consoles. 1GB is crazy. Happy y’all are finally getting this upgrade,” one comment read.
While another added, “I’ve spent so long deciding whether or not I want to fully add the modded Enclave into my Xbox save, since adding all the cool ones will basically fill the entire storage space and leave room for little else. Now I can have my cake and eat it too.”
The only thing to remember with this next step is that the update has every chance of cause problems with your existing modlist and load order. Just make sure to get everything saved and loaded before the patch rolls out to ensure everything is as safe as possible.
This also opens up the door for some of the bigger PC quest mods to make their way over to the Xbox Series S/X at the very least. That should keep us all going for a while longer yet, even if it doesn’t quite serve as a full replacement for another Fallout game.
