Despite not explicitly being a horror game, there are moments of Fallout 4 that are truly horrific and, no, I do not mean its plot. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity as we know it has fallen victim to nuclear waste, Fallout 4 marks the most recent mainline entry in the Bethesda franchise, and with Fallout 5 seemingly being nowhere near launch, it is the only one we are set to have for a while.
That being said, much like many of our favorite RPGs, it is Fallout 4‘s modding community that is keeping the game as busy as it is over a decade on from its original launch. Now, the BREACH mod is no exception.
Created by RascalArt, BREACH is a brand-new mod for Fallout 4 and is inspired by the Alien franchise. Adding untold horrors to the Commonwealth, this mod will see players “descend into the depths of fear” as they fight through a long-abandoned underwater facility, full to the brim with new enemies. However, with new weapons and power armor to get to grips with, you will have everything it takes to survive this mysterious new location.
“Off the coast of the Commonwealth, beneath the irradiated waters where the light fades from blue to inky black, lies ATLAS Laboratories. Silent but not yet dead,” the official mod description reads. “Heavily inspired by the Aliens franchise, BREACH is a narrative dungeon mod which sees the player explore a sunken research facility, uncover its secrets and discover the fate of the unfortunate expedition that came before them.”
Recommended for Fallout 4 players level 15+, the events of BREACH can be started by heading to Nahant Chapel and looking for the door next to the stage. However, if you are still unsure about how this mod works, full instructions on how to download it can be found on its official download page.
Featuring a full underwater facility, a brand-new Pulse Rifle which pays homage to the iconic M41a Pulse Rifle first seen in ‘Aliens‘, a “unique explosive heavy weapon”, an assortment of custom armor, consumables and even a trophy decoration to decorate your settlement with “if you should survive”, BREACH is the unofficial DLC that we have all been waiting for. Diving more into the horrors of the Commonwealth and the dangers that could be lurking below, it offers players the chance to test their mettle and be rewarded greatly for it.
Requiring the Automatron, Far Harbor and Nuka World DLC, BREACH also requires The Enclave Remnant CC/2024 next-gen update as a “soft requirement” to fully appreciate the mod.
Overall, BREACH is perfect for those looking for yet another excuse to return to Fallout 4‘s Commonwealth, whilst getting to experience inspiration taken from one of the greatest horror franchises of all time.
