Final Fantasy 14 has been making headlines again, mostly related to the upcoming Evercold expansion that’s releasing next year. After some frustrating and lackluster updates, it’s nice to be excited about FFXIV again. And if you’ve let your subscription lapse, then the good news just keeps on rolling, because Final Fantasy 14 is free for a limited time.
Free Login Campaigns in FFXIV aren’t exactly rare, but they aren’t common either. Typically, the popular MMO from Square Enix is free for a limited period a few times a year. And that doesn’t include the free trial that new players can now join up through the Shadowbringers expansion. The announcement came via the official Final Fantasy 14 website, revealing everything you need to know about the latest Free Login Campaign.
The new Free Login Campaign runs from Friday, May 15, 2026, at 4:00 am ET until Sunday, June 14, at 10:59 am ET. That’s pretty much exactly 1 month of free playtime you’ll have, although it will cap out once you hit the equivalent of 4 days. If you’ve never joined a Free Login Campaign, your time starts once you log in for the first time, and then it expires 96 hours later.
Theoretically, that means you can play FFXIV for free for 96 hours, but you’d need to do that nonstop, without sleep or bathroom breaks. More realistically, you’re probably getting closer to 10–15 hours for free, which still isn’t all that bad. As usual, however, the Free Login Campaign for Final Fantasy 14 comes with a few caveats.
In order to join the Free Login Campaign, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:
- You must have previously purchased and registered FFXIV.
- All registered service accounts must be set as inactive during the campaign period.
- Registered service account must have been inactive for at least 30 days.
In other words, you’ll need to have paid for FFXIV before but have been inactive, with no subscription ongoing, for at least 30 days. Essentially, this is a way to bring back folks who’ve been away from the MMO for a while. Considering it’s happening right as summer 2026 kicks off, it’s especially good for students, teachers, and anyone else who’s off for summer vacation.
If you fell a bit behind during Dawntrail‘s post-MSQ patches, then this is also a great time to catch up a bit before Evercold launches in 2027, especially if you’re not ready to commit to a subscription again quite yet. Either way, getting to play Final Fantasy 14 for free is always a nice bonus.
