The Boys‘ final season has come and gone, and two months after the Prime Video series aired its final episode, it is the end of an era for what is one of the biggest shows in recent memory. The market for superhero adaptations has been flowing with movies and TV shows for a long time, with many Marvel and DC projects.
That said, the two comic book giants are not the only franchises that have managed to break through with exciting releases. Prime Video’s best TV shows are the perfect example of that, as two of the streamer’s top series come from the superhero genre and have nothing to do with Marvel or DC. Those are the animated Invincible and the irreverent The Boys.
The first is set to continue on Prime Video for a long time, as there is still plenty of source material left to adapt, given that Robert Kirkman’s Invincible ran for 144 issues. As for The Boys, the superhero series ran for five successful seasons on the streaming service. However, The Boys came to an end earlier this year, with season 5’s final episode airing on May 20.
That date marked the end of an era for the show, as not only The Boys‘ story ended, but the Prime Video series also killed many of its most popular characters. That said, the show continued to perform strongly at the streamer past its expiration date. However, The Boys has just suffered a major hit that firmly signals this end of an era for the show.
The Boys Has Finally Been Dethroned On Prime Video
After its final episode aired on Prime Video on May 20, The Boys would continue to rank among Prime Video’s most popular TV shows around the globe for multiple months. That has since come to an end. According to FlixPatrol, The Boys has fallen off Prime Video’s global Top 10 TV Shows chart. The Boys‘ final day on the chart was Thursday, July 16, when it was Prime Video’s 10th most-watched TV show worldwide. Now, the superhero satire is no longer on the chart, with Prime Video’s The Boys replacement, Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir, still firmly on 9th in the global chart.
Prime Video’s most popular TV shows around the world also include the romantic phenomenon The Summer I Turned Pretty at 10th, and a top five with See You at Work Tomorrow!, Every Year After, Ride or Die, Off Campus, and Elle. The four shows at the top of the streamer’s global chart are Prime Video Original series, showing that no matter how many exciting licensed shows can be found on Prime Video, its Originals continue to impress. In the United States, The Boys continues to trend, with the superhero series currently in 8th nationwide, beating Clarkson’s Farm and Silo.
The Boys Franchise Will Return To Prime Video’s Charts
While this is the end of an era for The Boys, it is far from the last time fans will be seeing this franchise trend worldwide on Prime Video. The reason for that is simple, as Vought Rising, the first live-action The Boys spinoff, will be released in 2027. Featuring major characters from the original show, like Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy and Aya Cash’s Stormfront, as well as intriguing new players, a different time period, and a murder mystery at its center, Vought Rising has everything going for it to make the show another global hit on Prime Video for The Boys franchise.
The fact that Vought Rising will inevitably trend on Prime Video could also prove positive for The Boys. While season 5 marked the end of the show, there is a good chance it will make it back to the streamer’s global charts in 2027. Whenever there is a new release in a major franchise, fans and new viewers tend to go back and rewatch or finally check out what came before. As such, that boost from Vought Rising should make The Boys a global hit again.
