Warning: There are spoilers ahead for From season 4, episode 10, “If a Tree Falls in the Forest…”From is wasting no time on delivering its final season.
The From season 4 finale was released on June 28 and featured several game-changing reveals that set up the fifth and final season, including Fatima Hassan (Pegah Ghafoori) transforming into one of the Township’s nocturnal monsters, the consequences of pulling up the bottle tree, and whose side the Boy in White (Vox Smith) is on. The season 5 renewal, and confirmation that it will conclude the hit horror series, was announced before the season 4 premiere.
Now, on Instagram, actor Ricky He, who plays Kenny Liu, has confirmed that From season 5 filming is underway only a week after the season 4 finale. The caption says, “We’re starting to shoot season 5 btw.” One of the images and the captions also feature the word “anghkookies,” a humorous reference to the word “anghkooey” that plays an important role in the series. In addition to this confirmation, Julie Matthews actor Hannah Cheramy indicated that filming had begun in an Instagram Story picture featuring He, Ghafoori, David Alpay, Julia Doyle, Chloe Van Landschoot, and Angela Moore gathered around a table, while Corteon Moore and Nathan D. Simmons sit off to the side. Doyle’s laptop screen and script pages are whited out to avoid accidentally revealing any spoilers. The show primarily films in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The quick turnaround between From seasons 4 and 5 was made possible by the early renewal. In the announcement released before the most recent season, executive producers John Griffin, Jeff Pinkner, and Jack Bender shared that “we’ve officially begun work on season 5.” Production starting now bodes well for there being a shorter hiatus this time around, although no release date has been set yet for the final season.
While there were some major reveals in season 4, there are a number of major questions From season 5 still needs to answer. This includes questions about Julie’s storywalking, the Lake of Tears, who will finally figure out that Sophia is the Man in Yellow (Douglas E. Hughes) in disguise, whether Fatima is permanently a monster now, the origins of the Man in Yellow and the Boy in White, and whether the residents can escape the Township and end the cycle.
Most of the actors in Cheramy’s Instagram Story image are playing characters who are still alive in the show. One exception is Simmons, whose character, Elgin Williams, was killed by Sophia in the season 4 finale. While speaking with ScreenRant, he pitched a return theory for From season 5, which involves him reappearing after death as Father Khatri (Shaun Majumder) and other deceased characters have. He also mentioned potentially coming back as Elgin’s corpse, since most of the residents have not learned of his demise yet.
Some of the returning series regular actors who are not in the above images, and who they play, are Cheramy are Harold Perrineau as Boyd Stevens, Catalina Sandino Moreno as Tabitha Matthews, Simon Webster as Ethan Matthews, Scott McCord as Victor Kavanaugh, Robert Joy as Henry Kavanaugh, Avery Konrad as Sara Myers, Elizabeth Saunders as Donna Raines, Samantha Brown as Acosta, and A.J. Simmons as Randall Kirkland.
Since debuting in 2022, From has become the most-watched original series in MGM+ history and has helped bring more recognition to the growing streaming service. The show has an overall critics’ score of 96% and an audience score of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes. Season 3 has the highest Tomatometer score with a perfect 100% and season 1 has the highest audience score at 87%.
