Over a year after one of their most catastrophic projects of the decade, NBC’s best franchise shows no signs of recovering. Although the initial run of Suits made small waves from 2011 to 2019, the show’s true legacy started after its series finale. Once Netflix acquired the title for streaming, the USA Network original skyrocketed in popularity, quickly becoming a global favorite. The Suits resurgence brought unprecedented attention to the legal drama, leading creator Aaron Korsh to breathe new life into the series. Unfortunately, the Californian spinoff Suits LA— despite garnering major anticipation— failed to survive NBC’s 2025–2026 season.
Yet, Suits LA didn’t just struggle as a spiritual successor. Gina Torres was one of the most important characters of the original series, but the 2019 Jessica Pearson-centered Suits spinoff also died out after a single season. Meanwhile, longtime fans still rally for a straightforward Suits revival or reboot with the beloved ensemble cast including the infamous closer Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), unlikely ace attorney Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), and lovable antihero Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman). A full cast reunion is unlikely already, but the dual failure of Pearson and Suits LA doesn’t bode well for the franchise’s future.
Suits LA Definitively Put The Franchise On Hold
In theory, Suits LA made perfect sense. The original series was more popular than ever, the fandom was starving for new content, and there was real promise in a West Coast counterpart to the flagship New York setting. In practice, however, Suits LA was doomed from the start. The pilot episode alone was a tonally dissonant, downright confusing introduction to the replacement cast. By starting with the merger betrayal between Ted (Stephen Amell) and Stuart (Josh McDermitt), Suits LA banked on the audience buying in to a twist they had no emotional stakes in yet.
By the end of the spinoff’s 13 episodes, Suits LA never quite found its footing, and even the best parts of the spinoff— Lex Scott Davis as Erica, the unique focus on entertainment law, the meta cameos by real-life performers— nevertheless paled in comparison to the USA Network staple. As such, when NBC confirmed that Suits LA had been canceled before its first season finale even aired, it wasn’t remotely shocking. The bigger disappointment, though, is what has happened since Suits LA ended.
Though the spinoff’s series finale dropped back on May 18, 2025, there have been no subsequent plans made to expand the franchise. Original series legends like Patrick J. Adams have spoken out about potentially reprising their roles, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex (née Markle) is set to make her long-awaited return to acting in the upcoming film Close Personal Friends, but Suits itself remains at a standstill, with no reboot, remake, revival, or reunion planned for the foreseeable future.
Where The Suits Franchise Could Go From Here
NBC’s failed spinoff certainly pumped the breaks for the Suits franchise, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the tank is fully out of gas. Enough time has passed since the original series began that the series could expand in either direction, either carrying the torch in a sequel or exploring the history of its most iconic characters in a prequel. Granted, the latter is a major risk that rarely pays off, but there’s still a fairly high demand for new Suits titles which would give it a leg-up.
Conversely, the lingering devoted fans of the original series would probably be content with a simple meet-up or group panel. Truthfully, there are countless ways to keep a franchise alive, but inaction is a surefire way to kill any momentum Suits has left. While Suits LA irrefutably squandered much of the franchise’s potential in just over a dozen episodes, not all hope is lost. Though the battle may be uphill, the Suits franchise can absolutely recover— as long as it strikes the next time the iron’s hot.
