Pokémon Ruby 2 Is The Sequel We've Waited 24 Years For – Global exclusive news in one place

Introducing fans to the beloved Hoenn region for the first time, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire launched back in 2003 and is easily considered one of the most underrated Pokémon pairs of all time. Introducing 135 brand-new Pokémon, double battles, and abilities, Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire also welcomed a remake, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, in 2014, catapulting the Nintendo games back into the spotlight.

Now, well over two decades on from its first launch, and Pokémon Ruby is back, and this time, fans can look forward to an unofficial sequel courtesy of King Cradi. This developer is currently working on their very own Pokémon Ruby sequel, and has shared regular update videos to their YouTube channel.

Taking place five years after the events of Pokémon Ruby, yet continuing the story of an alternate ending, players will dive straight back into the action following the news that Team Magma had managed to dry the oceans of Hoenn courtesy of Groudon.

Back in January, King Cradi released a progress video for this highly ambitious sequel, letting fans know that, although it may be taking a while, Pokémon Ruby 2 is still very much in development. Updates also revealed that fans can look forward to a Dark-type Gym that us Trainers will have to take on. Ominous, indeed.

With Pokémon Ruby 2 now in the latter stages of development, fans were eager to take to the comments to share their thoughts and encouragement, with one comment reading, “Honestly, the fact you stuck with it this long says enough. Take your time, and please don’t burn yourself out. This actually looks like a genuine sequel and the little stuff honestly goes a long way to bring the feel of the world to life.”

Another agreed, adding, “This game is gonna be better than any other actual Pokémon game, moreso than other ROMs, showing how talented little guys can be and how bad the big guys are as well.”

All that is left for us to do is wait as the free download link for Pokémon Ruby 2 is set to be released later this year. As long as you have a legitimate copy of Pokémon Ruby, you will be good to go, and if nothing else, this highly ambitious ROM hack will pass the time whilst we wait for the next major Pokémon entry, Pokémon Winds and Waves, which is set to introduce us to the brand-new Gen 10.
