Star Wars has been through some real up and down times in recent years as a franchise, but on the video game front things have actually been a lot more consistent. A big part of that is the Star Wars Jedi series, which has combined a great original narrative with genuinely impressive gameplay features that really make you feel like a lightsaber-wielding badass.
The story puts Cal Kestis at the front of the story, a Padawan survivor of Order 66, who is attempting to navigate surviving in a galaxy where those in power want him dead. Thus far, there have been two games in the series, with a final part in the trilogy currently under
development at Respawn Entertainment.
Though we haven’t had an official reveal yet, some reports are starting to emerge about what exactly the game is going to be like, and it could be a very different offering from anything we have seen in the series so far.
Over on Reddit, one user shared a post detailing a rumor shared during the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, in which they put forward that the final part of the trilogy will take place after a time jump, and with an older version of Cal Kestis at the front of proceedings.
It’s an interesting proposition, and one that wouldn’t be particularly out of the norm for the Star Wars franchise, which regularly gives us a look at out favorite characters during their later years. The only worrying thing about that is it makes us much more likely to have to watch Cal die, and I really don’t think I’m ready for that just yet.
Fans actually received the news very positively overall, with one saying, “That sounds awesome, not like there’s too much of an overarching story to conclude. Can really have him do whatever at this point. Can’t wait for a third!”
“Won’t be that much older if this is still before the Battle of Yavin, I suspect it’ll be just far along enough in the timeline to give Kata a significant role as a Jedi in training,” another suggested.
“I can’t wait to see what Cal is up to. Really enjoyed the first 2, and I liked how he was leaning towards being a “gray” Jedi by the end. Also would love to explore Tanalorr after the time jump,” a third said.
It will be interesting to see what approach Respawn Entertainment take to the final part of the Star Wars Jedi series, with plenty of questions still up in the air about exactly where and when it will take place. In any case, it will be nice to finish up the story in a satisfying way, even if it does make us wrestle with some uncomfortable emotions.
