Though there are plenty of contenders, it’s safe to say that Mace Windu is one of the coolest characters in Star Wars, thanks to both Samuel L Jackson’s portrayal, and his overall power within the lore. He’s arguably the strongest of the Jedi Order bar Yoda, and he comes out on top against Palpatine until Anakin finally loses his grip and completes his turn to the Dark Side.
Seeing more of the character in additional Star Wars releases since has only added to that legacy further, and he draws in plenty of attention from fans any time he crops up. Now, he’s about to reappear once again, and in one of the most underrated adaptations in the Star Wars franchise as a whole.
Over on the Asmodee website, you should be able to find the link for the new Star Wars: Legion miniature release, the Jedi Council Commander Expansion. If you haven’t come across Legion yet, it’s essentially as close as we get to a Star Wars equivalent of Warhammer, and this new set brings notable members of the Jedi Council to the battlefield.
That includes a highly detailed rendition of Mace Windu, who is bound to be a devastating character to field as part of your army. In sharing what fans can expect from the release, the product descritption reads as follows:
“To defend the Galactic Republic The Jedi Council dispatched Mace Windu, Ki-Adi Mundi, Plo Koon, and Shaak Ti to fight alongside its Clone Troopers on the battlefield and quell the Separatist Uprising.
“This expansion for Star Wars: Legion contains 4 finely-detailed miniatures, enough for 2 Commander Units and 2 Operative Units, as well as Unit and Upgrade Cards to support gameplay.”
That era before the fall of the Jedi is undoubtedly one of the most action-packed that we’ve seen, particularly in the film adaptations, so to see that rendered here is pretty cool. The only potential caveat is the price, as the quality of the miniatures does add a premium that not everyone will feel comfortable with. The four miniatures cost $59.99/£59.99, so be prepared for that going in if you do want to get involved.
Mace Windu himself has actually gone rather underutilized by the franchise as a whole, with his last real appearance being in 2024’s Star Wars: Mace Windu: The Glass Abyss, a novel by Steve Barnes. Hopefully, we get to see him crop up in more Star Wars adaptations in the future, even if he can be very frustrating in his approach to finding the Sith.
