While it’s not completely unheard of, especially considering The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s new expansion announcement, it’s always a little bit surprising when single-player games like Batman: Arkham Knight continue to receive updates or content more than a decade later. Because we presently have no clue if or when we’ll get a new Batman: Arkham game from Rocksteady, spontaneous updates are a rare and much-appreciated treat for fans who adore the franchise and may still revisit Batman: Arkham Knight at their leisure.
Batman: Arkham Knight’s Batsuit skin catalog may not be as celebrated as, say, the one in Batman: Arkham City, yet it now features a beloved costume inspired by one of Batman’s newest appearances. However, following Insomniac’s recent Spider-Man: Brand New Day DLC announcement, fans are comparing the quality between two popular skins in Batman: Arkham Knight and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Shared by user Zay on Twitter/X, fans are now discussing which skin they like more between Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Fresh Start suit and Batman: Arkham Knight’s The Batman-inspired suit. This Batsuit, inspired by The Batman (2022), was easily one of Batman: Arkham Knight’s most highly anticipated and demanded skins ever since the movie was released. It finally debuted in Batman: Arkham Knight as a timed exclusive for Nintendo Switch in December 2023 before becoming available on all platforms a couple of weeks later.
At the time of its release, fans were not satisfied with it. On Reddit, for example, user loraxdude12 wrote, “It looks so bad. It’s like the model in game doesn’t work with this suit, which has a more sleek look to suit Pattinson specifically.” Now, assessing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day skin as a point of comparison, fans are agreeing that this Batman: Arkham Knight skin is still lackluster.
To be fair, while it’s visually gorgeous by today’s standards, Batman: Arkham Knight is a much older game than Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The Batman Batsuit not being on par with many fans’ standards could boil down to the fact that it was made for the Nintendo Switch version, with its textures and fidelity suffering in the process, as user Batcape98 posits.
Regardless, it’s terrific that fans can dress their Batman in a Batsuit inspired by The Batman in Batman: Arkham Knight, just like it’s phenomenal that Spider-Man fans will have a skin inspired by Spider-Man: Brand New Day to enjoy before the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster is released. Plus, due to The Batman: Part II production being underway and the movie being slated to be released on October 1, 2027, it will be fascinating to see whether a Batsuit inspired by the sequel will eventually make its way to Batman: Arkham Knight or even a new Batman game.
