The original design for the Trojan Horse in The Odyssey is revealed.
Christopher Nolan’s film adaptation of Homer’s epic poem has been a massive critical and commercial hit, boasting a “Certified Fresh” 94% score from critics and a “Verified Hot” score from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, along with grossing more than $900 million worldwide in less than three weeks. Demand has been particularly high to experience the movie in IMAX’s 70mm screenings, especially after Nolan shot the entire movie with IMAX cameras.
Now, via Insight Editions, ScreenRant presents never-before-seen images from the film featured in two upcoming companion books, Filming the Odyssey: Inside the Making of Christopher Nolan’s Modern Epic and The World of the Odyssey: A Visual Journey. Insight is publishing both books, both of which are written by James Mottram, in partnership with Universal and Syncopy. Filming the Odyssey will be released on August 25, followed by The World of the Odyssey in September. Check out the images below:
Matt Damon, who plays Odysseus in the film adaptation, wrote the foreword for Filming the Odyssey. The rest of the 280-page book consists of an exclusive behind-the-scenes exploration of bringing the movie to life, including the journey of Nolan creating his script and bringing it to the big screen. There are also exclusive interviews with the filmmaker, The Odyssey‘s star-studded cast and other unparalleled artists, along with on-set photos, concept art, and research materials.
As for The World of The Odyssey, it is a 144-page illustrated companion intended to be a visual guide to the movie. The book contains character profiles, in addition to locations, items, and moments that are vital to the story. There are also exclusive quotes from Nolan, the cast, and the crew, and a final chapter about the “movie magic” that brought the groundbreaking film to life.

One of the most eye-catching images is of the original Trojan Horse design. The iconic and mythical trap is one of the first things audiences see in the movie, and beyond the action-packed sequence it leads to later on, the Trojan Horse looms over the entire story and Odysseus’ harrowing journey home. As compelling as it is to see a much earlier design, it is also only one of many behind-the-scene insights offered to readers in these companion installments.
Meanwhile, the character profiles will provide further understanding and insight into not just Odysseus, but into other central characters such as Penelope (Anne Hathaway), Telemachus (Tom Holland), and Athena (Zendaya). While the 2027 Oscars are still many months away, Damon and many of his co-stars are already being widely discussed as likely nominees, along with nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and plenty of other categories as well.
