Marshals Season 2 Confirms Major Release Strategy Change

CBS is changing its release strategy for Marshals when the Western returns this fall for its second season.

Created by Spencer Hudnut, Marshals is a Yellowstone spinoff that revolves around Kayce Dutton as he begins working as a U.S. Marshall after the death of his wife. The first season aired midseason in 2026 and became the highest-rated series on CBS for the 2025-2026 TV season. Instead of waiting for midseason again, the show is coming back this fall.

CBS announced its fall 2026 premiere dates this week. One notable change to the schedule is that the Marshals season 2 premiere on Sunday, October 4 will air at 8:30 p.m. EDT instead of 8 p.m.

The reason for this is that the network is kicking off the night with an NFL doubleheader followed by a new episode of 60 Minutes season 49 (premiering September 13).

Viewers in the Pacific Time Zone will still be able to watch the show at 8 p.m.

Following the Marshals season 2 premiere, CBS’ primetime lineup will close out with the premiere of Tracker season 4 at 9:30 p.m. EDT / 9 p.m. PDT.

The Yellowstone spinoff will then move into its regular 8 p.m. timeslot, which it held during season 1, beginning Sunday, October 11.

Other shows premiering this fall on CBS include Survivor, The Amazing Race, FBI, CIA, Harlan Coben’s Final Twist, NCIS, NCIS: New York, NCIS: Origins, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Eternally Yours, Elsbeth, Cupertino, Sheriff Country, Fire Country, Boston Blue and 48 Hours.

Ghosts, Matlock and Einstein will all premiere in midseason, though CBS is set to air Halloween and holiday specials of Ghosts on October 29 and December 10, respectively.

Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton on Marshals, originated the role on Yellowstone, which earned him a SAG Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. The actor previously appeared in movies like Taken 2, American Sniper, the Fifty Shades trilogy and The Magnificent Seven, and the TV shows Brothers & Sisters and True Blood.

Grimes’ Marshals season 2 co-stars are Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, Tatanka Means, Brecken Merrill, Mo Brings Plenty and Gil Birmingham.

Marshals and Dutton Ranch are the two most recent shows in the Yellowstone franchise, which also includes the original series, 1883 and 1923.

After two episodes of Marshals season 1 aired, CBS greenlit a second season in mid-March. Whereas the first season only had 13 episodes, the network has ordered a full season for Marshals‘ sophomore installment, though an exact episode count has not been revealed.
