Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man is no longer moving forward.
Since the creation of Disney+, Marvel has started to bring forth many exciting shows about characters who were not necessarily set to play a major role on the big screen, or that could debut and then be sent off for a movie appearance. In recent years, those MCU TV shows went from limited series to multi-season projects, with multiple live-action series, like Daredevil: Born Again and Loki, earning renewals. That was the case for Wonder Man, which debuted on Disney+ on January 27 to great success. However, it seems like Marvel has changed its plans for the MCU’s slate of releases.
According to a new report from Variety, Wonder Man has been canceled, with Marvel reversing its season 2 renewal. Wonder Man had been initially renewed for season 2 in March, after all eight episodes of season 1 had been released two months prior. The report does not state why Marvel decided to cancel the superhero comedy, though it notes that Wonder Man only charted on Nielsen’s streaming charts for a single week, the show’s release week. Variety also reports that a writers’ room was never assembled for Wonder Man season 2 despite the MCU series’ renewal, and that writers have been released.
