Spider-Man: Brand New Day rewrites Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie’s new trailer teasing that the character will never be the same as Spider-Man undergoes a crucial transformation. In the MCU, it is not uncommon to see heroes reinvent themselves. That has happened to many characters, with Chris Evans’ Captain America being a timely example in 2026.
In the MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy, viewers got to watch as Holland’s Spider-Man grew and changed over the years. In his MCU debut, the character was extremely dependent on Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. That would change over the years. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter was more confident, but, ultimately, he was left all alone by the end of the movie.
Now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s story marks a reinvention of the character. Ned, MJ, and the whole world have forgotten who Peter Parker is. That would already have been a major turning point for the character. However, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the first chapter of a new version of Peter, thanks to the transformation he is undergoing.
Marvel and Sony have released a new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer on the same day that tickets became available. The footage builds upon the first trailer’s reveal that Peter was changing, developing organic webs and seeing his eyes turn pitch-black mysteriously. The new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer takes that one step further, showing how Peter’s life has been derailed.
Peter Parker Is Losing Sight Of Who He Is
When the script of Spider-Man: No Way Home was made publicly available, fans were impacted by how it described the end of the MCU movie as the moment Peter Parker is left behind and Spider-Man takes over. With Aunt May dead and all his friends forgetting who he is, there is no point for Peter to maintain a normal life. While he will be attending Empire State University, or at the very least pretend to, in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it seems like he has no social life. As Spider-Man rises, Peter will be transformed by a mutation.
Every Villain Confirmed For Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will pit Tom Holland’s Peter Parker against several Marvel villains. Here’s every antagonist who is currently confirmed.
In the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, Peter claims that he is losing his mind and control due to the mutation, seemingly becoming more violent and with black eyes. This marks a major shift for the Marvel hero. Thus far, the instances where Peter lost control have been very rare, such as the moment he nearly killed Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin for murdering Aunt May. It seems like the mutation Spider-Man is now experiencing in the MCU could lead to that darker version of the Marvel hero becoming the new normal, with Peter fighting against that future.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Perfectly Sets Up The MCU’s Symbiote Arc
At the time of writing, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has yet to make any mention of the symbiote that was left behind in the MCU when Tom Hardy’s Venom briefly moved over to the franchise in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. That said, the well-known arc of Peter coming into contact with the symbiote, which brings out the darker parts of his soul, creating a more violent Spider-Man, would tie in nicely with what the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer has revealed the character is going through.
The fact that Peter is undergoing such a life-changing period of his life right before the next two Avengers movies makes for interesting timing. After all, Spider-Man first donned the symbiote suit in the original Secret Wars event. As such, 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars could be the MCU release that finally sees Tom Holland’s Spider-Man come into contact with the symbiote, perhaps even leading to the debut of the MCU version of Venom or serving as a beacon to get Tom Hardy’s take on the character back. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is really the start of a new chapter.
