The Marvel’s Spider-Man duology really has been a great moment in time for the superhero genre as a whole, with everyone’s favorite web slinger really taking advantage of the amazing technology available to developers today. As such, a third game in the series was almost an expectation, but things have been very quiet on that front for a while, and anxiety has been growing.
Developer Insomniac Games have been hard at work on Marvel’s Wolverine (which looks incredible), but that had the knock-on effect of leaving Spidey in a state of limbo. That said, the games have been enormously successful, and leaving them behind entirely seems like an odd business decision, which is why new information potentially confirming the third game’s existence makes a lot of sense to casual observers.
As first reported by Insider Gaming, a new listing has appeared on the IMDb website that just so happens to mention the existence of Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. The revelation was spotted by SpiderManCD over on Twitter/X, who shared the dedicated page for the third game with their followers.
Though there isn’t too much information about what fans can expect from the game, it does contain several interesting points that are worth noting. Those include two listed directors in Ryan Smith and Bryan Intihar, both of whom worked on the previous instalment, and should instil confidence in the upcoming threequel.
Yuri Lowenthal is also set to retain his role as Peter Parker, which many existing fans will be delighted about, but the most interesting revelation is that the page lists the game as “in production,” a status that has yet to be officially confirmed by the developer or another company close to the project.
As excitng as all of that is at this juncture, it’s definitely best to take it all with a grain of salt until we get some kind of official communication from Insomniac Games themselves. We have previously seen a ton of leaks from the company for games that never saw the light of day, so there’s every chance that someone has jumped the gun here, before the project has really managed to get off the ground.
In reality, we’ll have to sit tight and wait for all of the excitement around Wolverine to die down after its release. From there, it’s much more likely that we’ll get official news on Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, or at the very least what the developer’s plans are for the future, even if they don’t include our friendly neighborhood (you know the rest).
