Marvel has officially confirmed that the Avengers‘ newest member is more powerful than the Hulk, with godlike superpowers. And no sooner has Marvel announced this fact than his first truly high-level fight has proved it.
In recent comics, former Super Soldier David Colton gained major new powers. The Captain America of the 2000s, Colton came close to death in a recent adventure, with Wolverine saving his life by using an ‘Origin Box’ to grant him new superpowers.
In the recent Avengers: Armageddon #1, Colton returned, now with the strength to defeat Captain Marvel in seconds. Thankfully, he was willing to join the Avengers as they oppose Thaddeus Ross’ Red Hulk and his new Hulk army, but fans are holding their breath for the moment Colton turns on his new allies.
David Colton’s Powers Officially “Rival the Sentry”
Marvel recently released new solicit information for Avengers: Armageddon #4, officially describing Colton as someone who “recently gained abilities that rival the Sentry.” This is the first time that Marvel has explicitly stated that Colton is on the same level as the Sentry (though it’s been strongly implied before.)

So far, Colton has been shown to possess flight, immense strength, superhuman speed, and impressive durability, easily defeating Carol Danvers in direct combat and catching Captain America’s shield out of the air. However, there’s a huge chasm between those powers and the Sentry, who can punch out gods, fly faster than the speed of light, and tear holes in reality with his bare hands.
Fans have been speculating for a while that Colton literally has the Sentry’s powers, since Origin Boxes contain the stolen powers of superhumans from Earth-6160, where Sentry is unaccounted for. That just became a lot more likely, as Marvel confirms he’s not just strong and fast, he has a Sentry-tier set of powers. Thankfully, his first chance to prove it is already here…
David Colton Proves His Strength in First Clash with Red Hulk
In a recent preview of Avengers: Armageddon #2 – from Zdarsky, Diaz and Alpizar – the Avengers arrive in Symkaria to battle the Red Hulk, who has invaded the country to enforce his corrupted version of Democracy. Red Hulk recently received a strength upgrade making him even stronger than Bruce Banner’s Hulk (at least according to Captain America) and it’s clear from the off that David Colton is easily his equal, punching Ross through multiple mountains.
In Marvel lore, Hulk’s absolute maximum strength is just barely enough to knock out the Sentry, as proved when the two clashed in World War Hulk. However, Sentry’s powers are far more versatile. In his dark aspect as the Void, Sentry didn’t just beat the Hulk – he broke literally every bone in his body. Likewise, his heat vision, reality-warping and control over the biological functions of others make him capable of easily killing the Hulk
