First released back in 2009 as remakes of 1999’s Pokémon Gold and Silver, Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver took fans to the beloved Kanto and Johto regions as part of the fourth generation of the beloved Nintendo franchise.
Released to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Gold and Silver, Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver were created as a way to respect the fans of the original, whilst aiming to introduce a whole new era of fans to the franchise. Luckily, they were met with success, going on to sell over 12 million copies for the Nintendo DS.
To help improve on the original, HeartGold and SoulSilver welcomed multiple new features, including the physical/special attack split, the inclusion of the Battle Frontier aimed at adding more post-game challenges, and even the ability for Pokémon to follow you in the overworld if they were in your party.
As such, Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver are remembered fondly, and with the Pokémon franchise as a whole celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, one upcoming release is guaranteed to hurt your wallets quite a bit.
That is because the Pokémon Online Center has announced its latest batch of official Pokémon merchandise, featuring T-shirts, magnets, pins, and keychains. Not only that, but the collection is dedicated to Pokémon games both past and present, featuring merchandise from games all the way from 1999 to 2005. Which, of course, includes Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver.
To celebrate the 2009 remake, fans of HeartGold and SoulSilver can now purchase pins dedicated to the beloved Nintendo DS game. The pins showcase the original DS covers for both HeartGold and SoulSilver, which are not only very nostalgic, but intricately designed. Here is what the official item description reads:
The Pokémon series’ past game titles are now available as pins! The Pokémon and logos are surrounded by a sparkling border, giving them a glossy finish. This set includes Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. The packaging features the release year and the Nintendo DS logo & icon!
Set to go live on 18 June, these are just some of the brand-new official merchandise you can get your hands on to celebrate Pokémon’s 30th anniversary.
After all, it is an exciting time for Pokémon fans following the recent success of Pokopia and the launch of the next mainline entry, Winds and Waves, some time in 2027. Whilst Pokopia is set to welcome a brand-new underwater update later this year, Pokémon Winds and Waves leaks suggest that we are in for an incredible experience. Here’s to another 30 years of the beloved Nintendo franchise!
