It was back in March 1999 that the world was introduced to The Matrix franchise for the first time thanks to the genius of Lana and Lilly Wachowski. Starring Keanu Reeves as our protagonist in a dystopian future, the story follows computer hacker, Neo, who is recruited by Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), in order to rebel against the machines in a world where humanity is trapped inside a simulated reality known as The Matrix.
Meeting both commercial success and critical acclaim, The Matrix is still praised to this day, and whilst the movie was followed by two sequels courtesy of the Wachowski sisters: The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, it is hard to beat the first. Since then, The Matrix has also welcomed further spin-offs, such as comic books, video games, and even an animated anthology movie titled The Animatrix.
