Godzilla is officially returning to one of the King of the Monsters’ greatest eras with a brand-new, five-part series launching this fall. This era reimagined the tale of the kaiju like never before, adding something incredible to the character’s mythology, and now fans will get to return to it in less than three months.
In 2025, creators Ethan S. Parker, Griffin Sheridan, and Pablo Tunica came together for the six-part series Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone. This was the second book of the Kai-Sei Era and IDW’s connected Godzilla universe. It was a monumental addition to Godzilla lore, as it deviated from the typical narratives concerning the kaiju by focusing less on Godzilla himself and more on the aftermath of one of his attacks, specifically, what happened to the people and creatures trapped in the “Deadzone.”
In this story, the Deadzone is a quarantined region of the Pacific Northwest that was sealed off by the U.S. government after being devastated by one of the worst Godzilla attacks in U.S. history. The government claims there is no life in the quarantined region, but the series proves this federal narrative wrong.
Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone notably introduced a new character to Godzilla’s mythology: the Wanderer, a mysterious half-human, half-kaiju mutant who roams the Deadzone. Now, the Wanderer is returning in Ethan S. Parker, Griffin Sheridan, and Pablo Tunica’s Godzilla: Revenge of the Deadzone #1 this October.
What You Can Expect from Godzilla: Revenge of the Deadzone, the 5-Part Sequel Coming This October

Godzilla: Revenge of the Deadzone #1 is slated for an October 28, 2026, release and is confirmed to be a five-issue miniseries that will directly continue the established lore and story of the previously released Escape the Deadzone. Thanks to the official synopsis for the first issue of Revenge of the Deadzone, we know that this story will take place outside of the Pacific Northwest and instead follow the Wanderer as he is held captive in New York City by the G-Force.
As a quick refresher, G-Force is a government organization responsible for dealing with the kaiju threat. Hence, it’s no surprise why they would take a particular interest in the Wanderer, given that he is half-kaiju, and have captured him so that scientists can study him. With this in mind, readers may be in store for some body horror; however, this reference to body horror is just speculation on Screen Rant’s part and has yet to be officially confirmed.
What we do know for sure is provided by the official synopsis for the debut issue: “The Wanderer is held captive by G-Force! Far, far away from his home in the Deadzone, the Wanderer is a captive in New York City! As he’s poked and prodded by a team of scientists, he’ll fill in the gaps of his mysterious past… and learn of the government’s true plans for the future of the Deadzone.”
It is clear from this summary that, even though the story won’t take place in the Deadzone, it will still play a major role in the narrative. And while the series is so far only confirmed for five issues, it already feels like this could be just the beginning of more direct sequels, especially if this sequel receives the same positive fan reception as the original series did during its 2025–2026 run.
