Netflix’s Ransom Canyon is way ahead of its time.
Although Ransom Canyon season 3 has not been confirmed by Netflix yet, the series’ showrunner, April Blair, has already revealed how the story would continue if the Western returns. In an interview with Deadline, Blair revealed that, unlike the six-month time jump between the first two chapters, a potential third installment would begin much sooner, allowing viewers to see the immediate aftermath of Ransom Canyon’s dramatic season 2 finale.
Ransom Canyon season 2, which premiered on July 23, 2026, picked up several months after the events of the first season, reuniting Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly) and Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel) after the former’s time away in New York. That gap allowed the series to introduce major changes in the characters’ lives before bringing them back together.
However, Blair explained that the approach would be different in Ransom Canyon season 3. According to the showrunner, the shorter timeline would let audiences witness the consequences of the finale’s major twists instead of just hearing about them after a time jump. She explained that the goal was for audiences to be able to experience the fallout firsthand.
Additionally, she stated that one character is expected to play a larger role if Netflix decides to move forward with Ransom Canyon. Kit Russell, who is portrayed by Casey W. Johnson, became a series regular before the second season aired. And, if the show continues, he will likely be more prominent than ever as the storylines and characters continue to develop.
While Netflix hasn’t given Ransom Canyon the green light for season 3 at the time of this article’s publication, Blair’s comments about how the creative team is already thinking ahead are a somewhat positive sign. However, until the streamer confirms another chapter for the Western show, it’s best to take these developments with a grain of salt.
Ransom Canyon is a Western drama set in Texas. It follows three influential ranching families locked in an ongoing battle over land and water. The Netflix series features a massive ensemble cast, which stars Eoin Macken (Davis Collins), Lizzy Greene (Lauren Brigman), Garrett Wareing (Lucas Russell), Marianly Tejada (Ellie Estevez), Jack Schumacher (Yancy Grey), Andrew Liner (Reid Collins), and James Brolin (Cap Fulle), alongside Duhamel and Kelly.
Ransom Canyon seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream in full on Netflix. There is currently no confirmation of a third season.
