Batman is no stranger to video game adaptations. One of the first tie-in games I played was 1989’s Batman: The Video Game for the NES, and it clued me into the wide world of adaptations, particularly how they don’t need to follow the source material one bit.
But over time, Batman eventually acquired more and more tie-ins, until one day, the Arkham series blew the potential of Batman games wide open. It’s influenced many games to this day, including three other entries in its own series, amid several spinoffs.
Now, thanks to a new reveal live at San Diego Comic-Con, we know that there’s another Batman game coming very soon on July 31.
Today at the San Diego Comic-Con Batman panel, Amazon Luna and Warner Bros. announced Batman: Caped Crusader – Chronicles, coming to Amazon Luna on July 31. Timed perfectly for the release of the second season of Caped Crusader, everything will be launching on the same day.
Billed as a “cooperative crime-solving party game” for up to four people, you’ll jump into each mission as a detective and try to take down villains along with Detective Montoya and Batman. There are 11 “episodic missions” in all, and confirmed villains include The Joker, Scarecrow, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Lynx, Music Meister, Dollmaker, and Babyface.
Similar to the Jackbox series, this is a “phone as a controller” game, and will be available to all Amazon Prime members once July 31 rolls around. Hamish Linklater and Michelle C. Bonilla reprise their roles as Batman and Montoya, respectively.
Amazon also points out that Luna is coming to Fire TVs in the US and UK, allowing them to play games on a new tab. They’re making a big push for “easy game night” sessions, noting the ability for everyone to come over and use their phones as controllers. It’s been interesting to see how Amazon Games has evolved over the years, and now, they seem comfortable in this universe of crafting tie-ins for upcoming shows.
Amazon Game Studios Director J.C. Connors briefly talks about this in a statement they gave at Comic-Con: “We are excited to unveil the Batman: Caped Crusader – Chronicles game for Amazon Luna, launching in tandem with Season two of the hit Prime Video series, Batman: Caped Crusader. And now with Luna’s newly expanded availability through Prime Video, players with a Fire TV will be able to jump straight into the game seconds after watching the show, all within one unified entertainment experience.”
While it might not be a new Arkham series entry, Batman continues his video game run on July 31. There will no doubt be plenty more projects for The Dark Knight in the years to come.
