Star Trek: Online’s newest adventure may be boldly going, but it’s going where man has, in fact, gone before. For the uninitiated, Star Trek Online is a free-to-play MMORPG with a handful of sizable expansions and a rich, 16-year-long history.
Unsurprisingly, Star Trek Online is one big love letter to the last six decades of Star Trek’s sci-fi epic, with this MMORPG commonly capitalizing on upcoming anniversary landmarks for other installments in the overarching franchise. The game’s new major update was revealed recently, and it’ll be especially thrilling for anyone who’s particularly nostalgic for the Klingon War, much less the first year of the game’s release.
Announced at the end of June, Star Trek Online’s newest major content update will be titled Undiscovered and launches tomorrow. As an initiative to overhaul and refurbish the “classic STO storyline” dubbed “Ultimate Klingon,” Star Trek Online’s ARC Games teases that it is returning with “new graphics, an updated story, exciting cutscenes, and more!”
This major content update will be accompanied by an event, also titled Undiscovered, that rewards players with a customizable iteration of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Lower Decks’ K’vort Temporal Flight Deck Raptor. Plus, this ship gives players the “ability to summon two B’rel class Birds of Prey.”
An exciting aspect of this content update is that it will also bring back Star Trek Online’s Deep Space Encounters. Fans can “earn bonus Endeavor XP and Daily Event Progress for the new Undiscovered Event” by playing Deep Space Encounters, where they’ll engage in “unique missions with new objectives, random enemies, and a large variety of environments.”
Star Trek Online: Undiscovered will star legacy franchise talent: the Doctor’s Robert Picardo and Miral Paris’ Lisa Locicero. The Doctor is a new addition to this revamped storyline, reprising the actor’s iconic role from Star Trek: Voyager and Starfleet Academy, and is sure to add more nuance and texture to the Federation and Klingon storylines.
There isn’t much longer at all to wait for this major content update and its event. And, while this update itself is tremendously exciting for anyone who is nostalgic about the lore of Star Trek Online and the promise of a revamped storyline, it’s also intriguing to imagine what other storylines and content from Star Trek Online might be tackled next in a content update. Besides, fans who adored the Deep Space Encounters feature will surely have reason to revisit the game to celebrate the occasion and experience how Cryptic has breathed new life into it and the “Ultimate Klingon” storyline.
Star Trek Online: Undiscovered is scheduled for release on PC on July 7, 2026.
